![]() Rich pictures can be extremely useful in including participants who do not have strong abilities in the language used for information gathering, as they are not hampered by grammatically correct text. Furthermore as rich pictures are typically used in the pre-analysis stage, they are not required to follow uniform rules in order to be read by a wide audience. The idea is that any picture or text that achieves the purpose (of gathering as much relevant information as possible) should be used. While some practitioners and teachers of the methodology suggest that only very limited text should be included in the picture, others maintain that there is no single best way of producing a rich picture. It is a simple as just putting down everything you know or think about the situation, without much concern about structure, as this will follow later. Simple drawings are used to evoke insight into a situation and record that insight. A rich picture is a systems thinking diagram used in the early stages of understanding a problem.
